New, comfortable, beautiful theater seats are part of The Z’s historic restoration and renovation project - and you can make a donation to name one!
Until recently, the seats in the Zeiterion were second-hand. When they were installed in 1982, the plan was to replace them after a few years. Now, over 40 years later, the time has finally come.
For $1,000, you can have a name, quote, or inspiring message engraved onto a plaque and placed on the back of the seat. Your message will be permanently affixed for the lifetime of the chair.

Please note: naming a seat does not entitle use of the seat for future performances.
To order by phone, call 508-994-2900 to speak to a box office associate. Your purchase can be completed over the phone, or you can request materials to be mailed to you.
The inscription can be a maximum of two lines,100 characters total. A name is not required to be on the plaque.
Designing Custom Seats for The Z
One of the major highlights of this project is new and uniform seats, but there is more to consider than just comfort. This is a restoration after all, so the seats need to be historically accurate as well. The trouble is, we don’t have photos of the seats from 1923. So we relied on what was likely selected in the 1920s and what is consistent with the theater’s Neoclassical style. This led to reference material to help select everything from the shape of the chair (back of the seat, armrests, end panels) to details like wood backs, seat bottoms, and fabrics. The end result is one that incorporates the comfort of today yet is true to the time period. We look forward to unveiling the new seats soon!
SEAT NAMING DETAILS/FINE PRINT
1. Naming Rights
The seat naming opportunity is a recognition program and does not confer ownership, priority seating, or reservation rights.
Name plaques will be affixed to the back of the selected seat(s) and will remain for the expected life of the seat or for a minimum of 20 years.
2. Naming Guidelines
Each named seat plaque may include up to 100 characters (including spaces) and must be approved by the Zeiterion.
The Zeiterion reserves the right to reject inscriptions deemed inappropriate, including but not limited to hate speech, foul language, and promotional messaging.
3. Placement & Availability
Seat selection is subject to availability and on a first-come, first-served basis. When you complete your donation, you will follow a link on the confirmation page or in your confirmation email to choose the seat(s) you wish to name.
The Zeiterion cannot guarantee specific seat locations.
4. Maintenance & Changes
The Zeiterion reserves the right to relocate or replace seats as needed due to renovations, wear and tear, or other operational reasons.
If a named seat is removed or significantly altered, the Zeiterion will make reasonable efforts to honor the donor’s recognition elsewhere in the venue.
5. Payment & Donation Terms
Seat naming contributions are considered charitable donations and are non-refundable.
Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Donors should consult their tax advisor for details.
Any incomplete pay-over-time donations after one year will result in the removal of your inscription and forfeiture of the naming rights for that seat.
6. Public Acknowledgment
By participating in the seat naming campaign, donors agree that their name may be used in Zeiterion promotional materials unless anonymity is requested.
7. Campaign Duration
The Zeiterion Theatre reserves the right to modify or end the campaign at any time.
8. Previous Donations
Naming rights cannot be applied to any past donations.
