Conductor: Yaniv Dinur
Soloist: Alexander Korsantia
Valentin Silvestrov: Hymn– 2001
Frédéric Chopin: Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 2 in C minor, Op. 17
Due to the situation in Ukraine, we have worked with guest artist Alexander Korsantia on a new music program.
In this benefit concert for Ukraine, the NBSO opens with the beautiful music of Valentin Silvestrov, Ukranian’s leading composer, who managed to escape Kyiv at the beginning of the war.
Georgian pianist, Alexander Korsantia returns to the NBSO to perform Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto, a heart-wrenching piece of beauty and virtuosity. Tchaikovsky had a great affinity for Ukrainian culture as his forefathers were from Ukraine. He often used Ukrainian folk songs in his music, most famously in his Second Symphony.
Please join us for the concert and consider donating to help the people of Ukraine.
All donations received will be given to Direct Relief, a US-based non-profit organization with a Platinum rating on GuideStar, a 100% fundraising efficiency rating from Forbes, and Charity Navigator lists it among the "10 Best Charities Everyone's Heard Of." Direct Relief is delivering critical medicines and requested supplies to people affected by the crisis in Ukraine. All contributions will support Direct Relief's emergency response to the Ukraine crisis. Donations can be made online at www.directrelief.org/NBSO or you can send a check made out to the “New Bedford Symphony Orchestra” with “Ukraine” listed in the check memo (mail to NBSO, 128 Union Street, Suite 204, New Bedford, MA 02740). The NBSO will forward the full amount of all donations made by check to Direct Relief with no administrative fees subtracted.
This is the rescheduled concert from January. All tickets issued for the January 8 concert will be honored on June 18. If you are unable to attend on this date, we will be happy to exchange your tickets for another concert or issue a refund. You may also consider giving the ticket amount back to the NBS as a tax-deductible donation.
The Z’s 2021/22 season is on sale to Z Supporters starting July 13. Join our community of supporters and get access before the public on July 27!
The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra is dedicated to the proposition that classical music can enrich and transform lives. That is why we are very pleased to offer you exciting, moving, and beautiful music. It is also why we remain committed to expanding the educational programs we offer to children in our region—last year more than 8,000 children benefited from our music programs! And finally, it is why we continue to build strong relationships with other music and cultural organizations in our region. We believe collaboration makes all organizations, and our community, stronger. Whether you are a first-time concertgoer or an NBSO regular, we welcome you to our community of music!
