Please join New Bedford Ballet in its annual tour de force – a full-length, family-oriented classical ballet. This year’s selection is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, The Snow Queen. It tells the story of two devoted friends, Gerda and Kiah. At the outset, an evil imp creates a mirror that distorts everything it reflects to appear ugly and horrible. When it shatters, fragments of the mirror are distributed throughout the world. Unfortunately, two fragments pierce Kiah’s heart and eye causing her heart to become very cold and her eyes to distort everything she sees as ugly and horrible. With hatred in her heart, Kiah leaves her home.
Immediately, Gerda goes on a long and difficult journey in search of her friend. She ultimately finds her at the castle of the Snow Queen. Gerda confronts the Snow Queen, a very cold woman, who was about to freeze Kiah’s heart completely. However, the warmth of Gerda’s tears as she pleads with the Snow Queen, causes Kiah’s heart to thaw. Even the Snow Queen could feel the love of the two friends for each other. Love had overcome evil, and they all danced in joy for the new freedom they possessed.
Tickets are $25 for reserved seating | $20 for general admission ($15 for senior citizens and children 12 and under)
